 Agriculture is the most important sector of the Sri Lankan economy. Even though its contribution to the gross domestic product declined substantially during the last 5 decades (from 30 percent in 1970 to 7.5 percent in 2015), it is the most important source of employment for the majority of the Sri Lankan workforce. Approximately 40 percent of the total labor force was engaged in agriculture in 2018. New jobseekers are reluctant to work in agriculture field but there are lot of employments exist in the fields of modern agriculture. The modern technology related Agricultural courses has high potential and demand of careers available in the agriculture field.
 

The Agriculture Field Assistant Course is high demand driven program in Nuwaraeliya area due to following reasons.

1.       Nuwaraeliya is one of the key floriculture area in Sri Lanka.

2.       Majority of people involved in commercial Agriculture (vegetable Cultivation & Floriculture).

3.       Due to family income from local tourism and agriculture lot of students are not engage with higher education.

4.       Most regional Schools has GCE (A/L) & GCE (O/L) agriculture curriculum but students after leave the school they don’t have a proper Job oriented agriculture course.

5.       Cater the regional demand of Agricultural related careers of the Agro related companies.

6.       Encourage new students to develop commercial home gardens.

7.       To provide practical knowledge to students to cultivate and preservation of foods of taking advantage of the climate.

Entry Qualifications

          1.      Passes in  six (6) Subjects  at G.C.E. (O/L) Examination and

          2.      Age should be between 17 and 29 years as on 01.01.2021
